| Cleaning Tips 1. De-clutter prior to cleaning
day for best value.
2. Put small, loose items in small baskets or containers for quick
removal on cleaning day (dresser tops, vanities, sinks, etc.).
3. Place a roll of paper towels in each bathroom for quick wipe-ups
in between cleaning days.
4. Keep steps clear of items. It is dangerous and slows the cleaning
process.
IRS Tips
If you are considering hiring a housecleaner (or you may already
have one) you may want to review IRS Publications 926 and 15-A.
You want to be certain you are hiring a corporation not an individual.
It appears that the IRS regularly rules against many people who
hired housecleaners who they thought were independent contractors,
ruling instead that they are in a special categorycalled "household
employees."
In many cases the IRS has been regularly ruling that their Social
Security payments should have been paid by the people whose homes
they cleaned. The IRS is ruling that the housecleaners were actually
employees of the person whose house they were cleaning.
A few characteristics of an employee / employer relationship of
a housecleaner are that the homeowner: supplies the cleaner with
tools directs the cleaners work by means of instruction sets the
hours or day of work or pays by the hour or day, not the job.
Also ask yourself about insurance for on the job injuries. Who
pays?
